These recommendations are based on existing evidence and the combined experience of the educators, providers, researchers, patient advocates, and community representatives listed in How These Recommendations Were Developed. This “expert consensus” has limitations that it is important to note. In particular, our experts had limited experience with issues important to persons identifying as asexual or otherwise on the ace spectrum; individuals for whom binary gender identification (e.g., male, female, transgender man, transgender woman) does not match their identify; and indigenous American or First Nation communities. There is a pressing need for more recognition of, and work with, these communities. These recommendations will be changed and added to as more evidence and experience become available.
